Good news - E-SIMs now work in Namibia! A few years ago we could not get any E-SIM working here, but this has changed. E-SIMs (e.g. Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Firsty) now work reliably in Namibia, running on the MTC network with good coverage in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and most major towns. As of 2026 you can even buy E-SIMs directly in MTC and Telecom Namibia stores.
Good to know: many E-SIM plans are still limited to 3G speeds (SimOptions and Firsty are among the few offering 4G/5G), and a local MTC SIM is usually cheaper for longer stays and gives you a local Namibian number. So for a 1-month stay we still recommend grabbing a local SIM at the airport - see below.

What does an E-SIM cost? (rough orientation) International E-SIM (Airalo, Holafly, Saily…): from approx. 9.99 USD for a small data pack - convenient, but often 3G only and pricier per GB.
MTC E-SIM (bought locally or via the MyMTC app): same prepaid prices as a physical SIM - e.g. YoData 30 = 30 GB for NAD 249 (~14,50 €) / 30 days, the best value for longer stays.

Recommended - Get your SIM card right at the airport! We highly recommend getting your Sim Card right at the airport. You have to register it with your passport in person.
IMPORTANT: We recommend getting your SIM Card at the MTC shop in the entrance hall of the airport (after you collected your luggage and went through customs). We say this because there is another Sim Card shop between the area where you fetch your luggage and before you go through customs, but this one is way more expensive than MTC.
If you stay 1 month we recommend asking MTC to top it up with so-called “YoData” = 30 GB for about 14,50 € for 30 days.

The biggest service provider in Namibia is called MTC.
